She has passion to teach really young children violin, cello and piano and pass down her love of music and art!  Holds dual Masters'  degrees on Classical and Jazz Performance at University of South Florida.

I love teaching young kids and being inspired by them! Sharing the magical moment when the children unleashes their creativity is priceless! I believe strongly that doing and sharing music educates and nourishes “the whole person,” on the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social planes, and in the healing powers of music.

Jessica Pavone, Violin/Piano/Viola

Jessica holds a degree in Music Education and is a certified music teacher in the states of New York and Connecticut.  With over fifteen years of teaching experience, she has taught privately, instructed group classes as well as directed youth orchestra programs.

 

I believe that learning an instrument can be overwhelming, as she remembers from taking lessons starting at age five, and aims to keep her lessons fun and low stress ensuring that students develop a healthy and positive relationship to their instrument.

Jia Xu, Violin

Violinist Jia Xu attended the Eastman Schoo of Music (B.M., M.M., Performance Certificate), As a holder of the OSD Mellon Scholarship at Eastman, she captured First Prize in the Beijing Violin Competition.  Jia has also been featured on the classical radio show "From the Top" (2001).  She has appeared in master classes with Anne-Sophie Mutter, Itzhak Perlman, Robert Mann, Midori Goto, Alice Schoenfeld, Donald Weilerstein, Glenn Dicterow, and Pinchas Zukerman.


No matter what happens, you will always have your music.” My first piano teacher told me that at age six and it has stayed with me ever since. Things come and go in life but music always stays by your side and within you. I fell in love with music at an early age and want to teach that same joy and creativity. I teach voice, songwriting, composition and piano to children of all ages. I enjoy teaching different genres – classical, jazz and popular music – focusing the most on passion, artistry and finding your own voice through different techniques.

Gabrielle Herbst, Children Musical Theater, Vocal, Piano, Composition

(b. 1986) is a composer and vocalist residing in Brooklyn. She has premiered her compositions at Roulette, The Stone, Cabinet Magazine’s Exhibition Space, Issue Project Room and HERE Arts Center. Recipient of the 2011 Artist Residency at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center in partnership with New York Theater Workshop, Herbst received commissions from Roulette and the Jerome Foundation, the new music ensemble Contemporaneous, Experiments in Opera at Issue Project Room, Duo Noire, and the Nouveau Classical Project. She is a 2012 Con Edison Composer-in-Residence through Exploring the Metropolis, Inc. as well as a 2013 Composer in Residence at Atlantic Center for the Arts. She is a current Artist-in-Residence at Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn. As a featured vocalist she has performed with Valgeir Sigurðsson, Zeena Parkins, Elliott Sharp, Da Capo Chamber Players, Contemporaneous, Allie Avital Tsypin at The Kitchen, and Marina Rosenfeld’s Teenage Lontano in the 2008 Whitney Biennial. She has studied composition with Joan Tower, Martin Bresnick, Marina Rosenfeld and Zeena Parkins, voice with Ilka LoMonaco and clarinet with David Krakauer. Gabrielle released her debut album under the name GABI with Software Records/Mexican Summer. She has toured Europe twice and across the US with this project. She teaches private piano, voice, and composition lessons to children ranging from ages 3 years to high school, as well as adults. She composed and conducted a small children’s choir for a theater production at Here Arts Center and taught songwriting for the Blue Balloon School.

Julia Chen, Piano/Jazz

A dedicated, engaging teacher of general music, piano, composition, improvisation, music theory, ear training, and music analysis, who integrates high-quality music training with experiential earning to bring diverse student populations to fluency in music. Julia holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Piano Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio and has led, composed, and arranged for groups in New York and Ohio.  She has nine years of experience teaching piano and she emphasizes ear training, theory, and improvisation during lessons. 

I encourage my students to learn music in multiple genres, and to bring in songs of their own choosing when possible. During lessons I emphasize improvisation, basic theory knowledge, and ear training. Above all, I attempt to give students music that challenges and excites them, and to help students find a connection to music both within and outside of their lessons.

Learning the flute and music made me recognize who I am as a person. Creating music is another way to express yourself. I want my students to feel the same experience that I had. It’s
not just learning the notes. It’s also learning to realize who you truly are.

Rosa Jang, Flute

Rosa completed her undergraduate studies at the New England Conservatory and a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music where she won the chamber music competition. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Musical Arts from Stony Brook University. Her major teachers include Rocksun Moon, Sara Andon, Fenwick Smith, Ransom Wilson, and Carol Wincenc. As a devoted teacher, Rosa taught in several public schools such as John. C. Daniels School of International Communication, Cooperative Arts and Humanities high school, and Mauro Sheridan Magnet School. Rosa had also taught in Morse Summer Academy (Yale School of Music) as a flute faculty for 4 years. She is currently an undergraduate flute lesson instructor in Stony Brook University.

It is my passion to instill a love for playing and singing in each of my students, by tapping into what excites them about music! I believe learning music is a highly personal experience, and each student requires a unique approach that reflects their own individuality. For that reason, I never use one single method of instruction, and try to tailor my approach to each student.

AMIRTHA Kidambi, 

Beginner Piano and Voice


Amirtha holds a B.A. and M.M. in Vocal Performance, with training in Classical/Opera, Jazz, South Indian Carnatic music and Classical piano. She loves to teach all genres of music including Classical, Jazz, Musical Theater, Pop, Rock and R&B. As a musician, Amirtha is a composer, vocalist, and improviser, playing keyboards and Indian harmonium in many different bands and ensembles. She regularly premieres works by some of the most innovative composers in the world, and is the bandleader of her own experimental Jazz quartet. Amirtha has been teaching voice and piano for over 9 years, and is thrilled to be teaching in the diverse and wonderful borough of Queens!

Earned awards such as outstanding soloist awards at the N.J.I.A.J.E. State Finals Jazz Festivals, Berklee College High School Jazz Festival Judge's Choice Soloist award, and the Maestro Award at the Washington D.C. Inaugural Music Festival. Holds a bachelors' degree in music from Oberlin college and Master's degree in Music Education from Queens College , his occupation is teaching private lessons and performing with session bands, as well as leading his own groups in NYC. 

I attempt to make my private and group lessons as engaging as possible, appropriating them for people of any age or ability level. I gear my lessons towards the individual interests of my students, and they can cover anything from reading music notation, learning music by ear, improvising and technique. My ultimate goal is to motivate my students in the long run, helping them to achieve a greater understanding of music, building their confidence and having fun.

Deemed a “rising multi-faceted star if not musical voice on the New York scene” (@CriticalJazz), 2016 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow Jeff Fairbanks has won a number of highly competitive awards for composing, including the USAF Sammy Nestico Award, the Jerome Fund, ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award, and the BMI Charlie Parker Award.  He has won eight grants from the following institutions: the Aaron Copland Fund, the Queens Council on the Arts, and New Music USA (formerly American Music Center).  Click here for the artist website.

I craft each lesson or class to the individual student, focusing on things that stimulate them musically. Every student comes to the table wanting to learn or get something specific. I often teach them what they want (be it pop songs or Classical or Jazz pieces), but I also throw in essential material that I feel is necessary for the development of their musical growth on their instrument. In other words, I try to make the lessons as fun as I can by diving into the fun stuff, but I also stress on certain fundamentals as they are necessary and beneficial for the long run of the students musical education.

STEVEN CHELLIAH; Guitar

Steven holds a dual B.M degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music (Boston) in ; Jazz Composition (Master’s Degree equivalent), and Contemporary Writing & Production. He is an innovative composer, guitarist, and singer-songwriter in the Rock/Jazz/Funk/Soul idiom.  Steven has developed advanced compositional and improvisational techniques which utilize all of the Eastern exotic scales of Indian Carnatic Music, within a Western frame-work to open up a whole new world of Harmonic and Scalar (melodic) innovation. This fresh new system of his called FuzAsian can be heard throughout his work.  Apart from teaching music part-time, Steven is a full-time musician in New York City’s music scene, leading his own solo project and also working on film scoring projects as a freelancer.

My philosophy that to teach is to instruct with care and to nurture. I believe that each student is an aspiring artist and must be nurtured as such. They must be taught not only how to be a proficient musician, but how to live as an artist.

Specializes in working with students to develop a solid technical and musical understanding through creating a specialized and personal program for each student. I firmly believe that there is no one way to approach the instrument since we are unique, and that is why we must find etudes and repertoire that are suited for our individuality.


Nina Dante, Voice/Piano

Nina Dante believes in music as a form of personal expression, and loves to help kids tap into their artistic potential.   She is dedicated to guiding young musicians from their earliest exposure to music to a deep technical and emotional understanding of their art form. She teaches both piano and voice, and is experienced in classical, musical theater and pop styles.

Nina received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance Degree from Northwest Bienen School of Music (Chicago), an studied classical voice and chamber music at the École normal de musique in Paris, France. She taught private voice and piano in Chicago from 2012-2015, and in NYC since 2015. 

I believe that music is one of the greatest means of personal expression available to us, and want my students to always love and feel fulfilled making music. My teaching style is both warm and methodological, and I welcome students of all ages.

I like to find the good in all kinds of music - and to figure out why it’s good. I want to relate to my students through the music they already like as well as challenge them by exposing them to new repertoire and concepts.

Andrew Wangemann, Drummer and composer

a graduate of The Juilliard School (B.M. and M.M. in Jazz Studies: Drums). With his band, Andrew Wangemann’s Jazz Folk, he recently released a CD, Baby Babble, which features many of his unique compositions and arrangements of folk tunes. Andrew also has a knack for writing witty lyrics and loves to create songs for kids and musical theatre.
